Movies for Adult Minds - Art Films Psychologist’s Hobby
Hobbies and ideals often aren’t commercially successful, but one Worcester hobbyist is hoping that his new endeavor will prove an exception to the rule.
He is Abbot H Hoffman who, by night, is manager of the Park Arts Theater, which opened October 3.
By day, he’s a psychologist at Worcester State Hospital…
…’In a way, I may be idealistic,’ Hoffman commented, ‘but I believe there’s entertainment in a thought-provoking adult theme…’
'Probably you'd like to know something about my views on obscenity,' he said, 'To me, a Hollywood production which is geared to the emotions of a mass audience and which inevitably ends happily is obscene…'
Abbie Hoffman letter (signed “Howie Samuels”) - this letter was written on the backside of a form used by the College Du Leman - Versoix-Geneva, Switzerland.
"Dear Mark, Please send the kill fee you offered to Noah for the TV Commercial piece. Sorry not to get back to you I’m a long way from a payphone in fact the U.S. I won’t be back for a few months. I recommend Jay Levin of N.Y. (in phone book I guess). He’s a terrific writer and has lots of good ideas about TV. He’d be excellent for the column. Have a good summer and I’ll get to you in the fall - don’t call us, we’ll call you — Howie Samuels"
